    GPSC (Gujurat) English Literature Syllabus in Details

    The GPSC exam consists of the following stages:

    1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
    2. Main Examination (Descriptive)
    3. Interview (Personality Test)

    The preliminary exam is an objective test designed to screen candidates for the mains. It consists of two papers:

    1. Paper 1: General Studies I
      • History of India and Gujarat: Major events, freedom struggle, and local historical movements of Gujarat.
      • Geography: Physical, social, and economic geography of India and Gujarat.
      • Indian Constitution and Polity: Indian political system, Panchayati Raj, and governance with special emphasis on Gujarat.
      • Economy: Economic reforms, budgetary policies, planning, and Gujarat’s economic developments.
      • Environment and Ecology: Ecological concerns, climate change, and biodiversity issues related to Gujarat.
      • Science and Technology: Developments in the fields of science and technology, focusing on general awareness.
      • Current Affairs: National and international events with particular emphasis on Gujarat.
    2. Paper 2: General Studies II (CSAT)
      • Comprehension
      • Interpersonal Skills
      • Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
      • Decision Making and Problem Solving
      • General Mental Ability
      • Numerical Ability and Data Interpretation

    The mains exam is descriptive and covers a wide range of subjects to assess candidates’ in-depth knowledge. It consists of six papers:

    1. Gujarati Language: Proficiency in essay writing, précis writing, comprehension, and grammar.
    2. English Language: Essay writing, comprehension, translation, and grammar.
    3. General Studies I: Indian heritage, culture, and history with a focus on Gujarat’s culture and history.
    4. General Studies II: Indian Constitution, political governance, international relations, and state administration with relevance to Gujarat.
    5. General Studies III: Economy, agriculture, science, technology, and environment with a special focus on issues concerning Gujarat.
    6. General Studies IV: Ethics, integrity, and aptitude.

    The final stage is the interview, where candidates are assessed on their personality, communication skills, decision-making abilities, and knowledge of current events, especially those affecting Gujarat.

    This structure ensures that candidates are tested comprehensively on both general and Gujarat-specific topics, preparing them for administrative roles within the state.
