2. Dhvani (Suggestion)

Proposed by Ānandavardhana in Dhvanyāloka, the concept of dhvani emphasizes the importance of suggestion in literary works. According to this theory, the true meaning of a text lies in its implicit or suggested layers (vyangyārtha), beyond its literal or denotative meanings.

3. Alamkāra (Ornamentation)

Alamkāra refers to poetic devices and figures of speech that embellish literature. Examples include:

• Upamā (Simile): Comparison using “like” or “as.”
• Rūpaka (Metaphor): Direct comparison without connectors.
• Anuprāsa (Alliteration): Repetition of consonant sounds.

4. Vakrokti (Oblique Expression)

Kuntaka’s Vakrokti Jīvita highlights vakrokti, or the “oblique expression,” which elevates a text’s aesthetic appeal through deviation from straightforward expression.

5. Aucitya (Propriety)
