Nestled amidst the pristine beauty of Shivpuri near the River Ganges, Sahitya Classes recently organized a rejuvenating nature trip for its UGC-NET Offline Batch students. This unique blend of adventure and academia was spearheaded by none other than the dynamic face in the coaching industry for UGC-NET English Literature, Prof. Vineet Pandey. Prof. Pandey is known for his innovative pedagogical methods and passion for teaching. The trip, designed to beat exam stress and build camaraderie, turned out to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Day 1: Travelling to Shivpuri via a traveller
The journey began with a warm welcome at Jia Sarai by our lovely hosts Prof. Vineet Pandey and Dr. Diksha Tripathi. A 30-seater traveller was boarded by students of the offline batch and some of the staff members. The journey of eight long hours started at 6 am on December 6. The soft, chilling breeze swept through us while we sat looking through the roads passing by. Our first stoppage was at Haridwar where we paid our heartiest tribute the calm Ganga River, holding much depth within herself. Just touching her felt so relaxing while the soothing sun gave us some relief. By 1 pm, we reached the camping site, where we were assigned their cozy tents near the serene banks of the Ganges. We could clearly listen to the fierce Ganga roaring at us with excitement. Listening to the youthful Ganga just filled us with excitement and adventure. So, the warm sun rays and white sand grains touched our bare feet while we played volleyball. Around 2:30 pm, we were welcomed by the camp staff to attend the lunch. The common area for lunch was soon filled with laughter and cheers. The day transitioned into an evening of excitement as everyone gathered around a bonfire under the open sky. There were heartfelt conversations, spontaneous singing, and a spirited literary quiz led by Prof. Pandey. He seamlessly intertwined the beauty of nature with timeless literary works, proving that learning goes far beyond the confines of classrooms. Also, we had some cute little furry puppies
Day 2: Trekking, Volleyball, and Team Building
The second day started with a trek through the lush greenery of Shivpuri. As we were navigating the rugged terrains and rocky paths, we reflected on parallels between the challenges of trekking and preparing for the UGC-NET. “Just as every step forward counts in trekking, so does every topic we revise for the exam,” remarked a student. Not just trekking, we were also exploring some adventurous activities like river rafting. This activity definitely charged each one of us. We were given instructions by guides after we wore the yellow helmets and life jackets. This activity was a real showmanship and taught us to respect teamwork and collaboration. This trip actually sounded like John Dewey’s philosophical pedagogical input: applying theory into practice.
Later in the day, a spirited volleyball match and badminton games were organized to foster teamwork and collaboration. We realized that just like in sports, succeeding in the exam requires strategy, coordination, and trust in their peers.
Day 3: Learning and Living by the Ganges
The final day was a blend of introspection and exhilaration. Prof. Pandey conducted an insightful session by the riverside, drawing connections between nature and literature. He quoted from Thoreau’s Walden and Tagore’s Gitanjali, inspiring students to see life and learning as interconnected journeys. The journey finally culminated at Rishikesh where we stayed in a dharmshala while sharing rooms with our team members.
Communicating with local villagers added another layer to the experience. We were just surprised at the simplicity and wisdom of the locals, understanding the importance of humility and connection. The day concluded with students sharing reflections on what they had learned: resilience, gratitude, and the significance of collective effort.
Life Lessons from the Trip
