About Course

The Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) exam is a prestigious examination conducted by the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, on behalf of the Gujarat Government. The primary objective of the GSET exam is to evaluate the eligibility of candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in universities and colleges across Gujarat. GSET exam is an important gateway for aspiring educators who wish to pursue a career in teaching at the higher education level. The GSET exam is conducted in 33 subjects across 11 centres.

Timings for GSET exam 2024

The GSET exam 2024 will be of three hours. The Paper I will be for an hour from 9:30 am to 10:30 am while Paper II will take place for two hours from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

    GSET Paper Pattern

    GSET paper pattern 2024 consists of two papers which will include objective type and multiple-choice questions.

    Paper I contains 50 compulsory questions carrying two marks each. These questions will evaluate the general aptitude for the GSET exam and assess the research/teaching aptitude. Further, it will focus on testing reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.

    In Paper II, you will be answering 100 objective type questions each carrying two marks in English Literature. The questions in both the papers will be in English and Gujarati.

    You will have to mark the right answers for questions of Paper-I and Paper-II on the OMR sheet. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

    You need to sit for both the papers otherwise, you will be disqualified. You will be only allowed to sit for Paper II if you sit for Paper I.

    GSET English Literature Syllabus in Details

    GSET Syllabus Paper I consists of 10 modules including topics such as teaching aptitude, research aptitude, comprehension, communication, mathematical reasoning and aptitude, logical reasoning, data interpretation, Information and Communication Technology, People, Development, and Environment, and Higher Education System.

    In the GSET exam, five questions carrying two marks each will be set from each module mentioned in the GSET syllabus paper I.

    The GSET exam syllabus 2024 for English covers topics like drama, poetry, short story, fiction, non-fiction. The GSET exam will assess critical thinking, critical reading, and writing skills while providing comprehension passages from the first four units. These four units will cover all literatures in English.

    In the Unit V, the GSET exam syllabus will cover basic concepts, theories, pedagogy, and English in use related to the language.

    The Unit VI of the GSET exam syllabus for English will cover the history, evolution, and future of English in India.

    In Unit VII, cultural studies have been covered in the GSET exam syllabus 2024.

    Literary criticism has been included in the Unit VIII for the GSET exam syllabus for English.

    In the Unit IX, the GSET exam syllabus covers the literary theory post-World War II and the 10th unit covers research methods and materials in English.
