About the Course

The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) exam is conducted to recruit candidates for various administrative and government positions in Haryana. The exam is divided into three stages, similar to other state civil services exams: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview.

    HPSC English Literature Syllabus in Details

    The HPSC exam consists of three stages:

    1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
    2. Main Examination (Descriptive)
    3. Interview (Personality Test)

    The preliminary exam is objective in nature and consists of two papers. It serves as a screening test for the mains.

    1. Paper 1: General Studies
      • History of India and Indian National Movement: Major events of Indian history, especially relating to the independence movement.
      • Geography: Indian and world geography, physical, social, and economic geography of Haryana and India.
      • Constitution and Polity: Indian Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, public policy, and state governance.
      • Economy: Indian economy, reforms, budget, poverty alleviation programs, and Haryana's state economy.
      • Environment: Issues relating to environmental ecology, biodiversity, and climate change.
      • Science & Technology: Latest advancements and developments.
      • Current Affairs: National and international events with special emphasis on Haryana.
    2. Paper 2: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)
      • Comprehension
      • Interpersonal Skills
      • Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
      • Decision Making and Problem Solving
      • Basic Numeracy and Data Interpretation: Charts, tables, and graphs.
      • General Mental Ability

    The main exam is descriptive and consists of several papers that evaluate a candidate’s in-depth knowledge.

    1. English (Essay and Comprehension): Includes essay writing, précis writing, comprehension, and grammar.
    2. Hindi (Essay and Translation): Essay writing, translation, and grammatical skills in Hindi.
    3. General Studies I: Indian heritage, culture, history, and geography.
    4. General Studies II: Indian Constitution, polity, governance, international relations, and state issues related to Haryana.
    5. General Studies III: Technology, economic development, biodiversity, environmental issues, security, and disaster management.
    6. General Studies IV: Ethics, integrity, and aptitude.

    The final stage is the interview, assessing the candidate's personality, communication skills, and knowledge of the state's current affairs, culture, and governance.

    The HPSC exam provides a thorough evaluation of a candidate’s overall understanding of various national and state-specific issues, making it a competitive exam for those aspiring to serve in Haryana's administrative roles.
