About the Course

    HP PSC English Literature Syllabus in Details

    The HPPSC exam consists of the following stages:

    1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
    2. Main Examination (Descriptive)
    3. Interview (Personality Test)

    The preliminary exam is objective in nature and consists of two papers. It is primarily a screening test for the mains.

    1. Paper 1: General Studies
      • History: Indian and Himachal Pradesh history, including significant events and movements.
      • Geography: Physical, social, and economic geography of India and Himachal Pradesh.
      • Indian Polity: Indian Constitution, political system, and governance with emphasis on Himachal Pradesh’s administration.
      • Economy: Indian economy, budgeting, economic reforms, and Himachal Pradesh’s economy.
      • Environment: Issues related to biodiversity, ecology, and climate change, especially in Himachal Pradesh.
      • Current Affairs: National and international current events, along with regional events in Himachal Pradesh.
      • Science & Technology: General awareness of scientific advancements.
    2. Paper 2: Aptitude Test (CSAT)
      • Comprehension
      • Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
      • Decision Making and Problem Solving
      • Numeracy: Data interpretation using charts, tables, and graphs.
      • General Mental Ability

    The mains are descriptive in nature and test a candidate’s knowledge in various subjects. It consists of the following papers:

    1. English: Essay writing, comprehension, précis, and grammar.
    2. Hindi: Essay writing, translation, and language proficiency in Hindi.
    3. General Studies I: History, art, culture, heritage, and geography of India and Himachal Pradesh.
    4. General Studies II: Indian polity, governance, international relations, and issues concerning Himachal Pradesh.
    5. General Studies III: Economic development, technology, biodiversity, security, disaster management, and the state’s economy.
    6. Optional Subject: Candidates choose one optional subject from a list provided by HPPSC.

    The final stage is the interview, assessing the candidate’s personality, general knowledge, and understanding of regional issues, particularly those related to Himachal Pradesh.

    This course structure ensures candidates are thoroughly tested on their knowledge of the state’s governance, socio-economic issues, and their aptitude to handle administrative duties.
