    OPSC English Literature Syllabus in Details

    The OPSC exam consists of the following stages:

    1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
    2. Main Examination (Descriptive)
    3. Interview (Personality Test)

    The preliminary exam serves as a screening test for the main exam and consists of two objective-type papers:

    1. General Studies Paper I
      • History of India and Odisha: Including major events, freedom struggles, and cultural heritage.
      • Geography: Physical, economic, and social geography of India and Odisha.
      • Polity and Constitution: Indian Constitution, political system, and governance with a focus on Odisha’s state government.
      • Economy: Indian economy, economic reforms, and Odisha’s economy.
      • Environment: Biodiversity, ecology, and climate change, with Odisha-specific concerns.
      • Current Affairs: National, international, and Odisha-specific current events.
      • Science & Technology: General awareness of scientific developments.
    2. General Studies Paper II (CSAT)
      • Comprehension
      • Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
      • Decision Making and Problem Solving
      • Numeracy: Data interpretation, graphs, and tables.
      • General Mental Ability

    The main exam is descriptive and tests the candidate’s detailed understanding of various subjects. The OPSC mains consist of the following papers:

    1. Odia Language: Essay writing, grammar, comprehension, and précis.
    2. English: Essay writing, grammar, comprehension, and précis.
    3. General Studies I: Indian history, culture, geography of India and Odisha, and world geography.
    4. General Studies II: Indian Constitution, governance, international relations, and policies in Odisha.
    5. General Studies III: Science and technology, environment, disaster management, security, and Odisha’s economic development.
    6. General Studies IV: Ethics, integrity, and aptitude.
    7. Optional Subjects: Candidates choose two optional subjects from a list provided by OPSC.

    The final stage is the interview, where the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and knowledge of socio-political issues are assessed, with an emphasis on Odisha.

    The OPSC exam evaluates candidates on their knowledge of the state's governance, socio-economic challenges, and readiness for administrative responsibilities.
