Components of UGC-NET Paper 1 Syllabus 

UGC-NET syllabus for paper 1 consists of ten units. Here is the breakdown of each unit:

1. Teaching Aptitude: Teaching is an art where you need to understand your learners’ characteristics, their interests, and guide them accordingly. One size does not fit all! So, you must use different teaching methods, theories related to pedagogies, factors affecting teaching, various online and offline modes of teaching, and evaluation systems. 
2. Research Aptitude: Remember, you are preparing for JRF! You will be given fellowship for your research aptitude. So, this portion is of utmost importance. If you do not know how to find answers to your research questions, how will you submit your Ph.D. dissertation? Without Ph.D., you will not be eligible for promotions. The process is simple! Deep dive into various types of research, steps involved in research, research methodologies, thesis and article writing, different referencing styles, and ethics related to research. 
3. Comprehension: This section will help your examiners to gauge your comprehension and analytical skills. You will be given a passage and you need to answer certain questions based on the given passage. Start developing your reading interests again! 
4. Communication: While sharing the importance of Paper 1, we have already reflected that you must be aware of the interactions taking place between people in the higher-educational settings. Communication is the key! Here, you must try to understand the various types of communication, barriers to effective communication, mass-media and society. 
5. Mathematical reasoning and aptitude: After qualifying for the UGC-NET/JRF, you might pursue Doctorate in Philosophy in English Literature. With logic, begins the journey of philosophy. Even if you pursue Ph.D. in English Literature, you will need to apply mathematical reasoning. Why? Pursuing Ph.D. in Digital Literature and social media literature will require content analysis. 1. Logical reasoning: You must understand types of errors, fallacies, arguments, structure of the arguments, Indian logic, analogies, inductive and deductive reasoning, analogies, venn diagrams, etc. 
2. Data Interpretation: We are living in the world of data and metaverse. Get ready to face it real-time. You must know the various types of data, sources to collect data, data and governance, and understanding of graphs and charts. 
3. Information and Communication Technology: The world is united by the Internet. You must be getting information related to your exams and other stuffs via Internet. Remember, the foundation course of computer science in schools. You will now thank your school. Here, you must be aware of general abbreviations, terminologies, digital initiatives in higher education, and ICT and governance. 
4. People, Development and Environment: In this unit, you will be asked questions related to sustainable development goals, environmental issues, impacts of pollutants, natural and energy resources, natural hazards and disasters, and various national and international acts. 
5. Higher education system: In this unit, you will be asked questions related to institutions of higher education in ancient India, evolution of higher learning and research post-independence, types of learning programmes in India, professional, technical, and skill-based education, value education and environmental education, and policies, governance, and administration. 

From each section, you will get five questions of two marks each. So, prepare accordingly.
