    WB PSC English Literature Syllabus in Details

    The WBPSC exam consists of the following stages:

    1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
    2. Main Examination (Descriptive)
    3. Interview (Personality Test)

    The preliminary exam acts as a screening test for the main exam. It consists of a single paper of General Studies.

    General Studies Paper (200 Marks)

    • History of India: Including Indian National Movement.
    • Geography: Physical, social, and economic geography of India, with a special focus on West Bengal.
    • Constitution and Polity: Indian Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, and governance, particularly in West Bengal.
    • Economy: Indian economy, economic reforms, and West Bengal’s economy.
    • Science & Technology: General awareness of scientific and technological developments.
    • Environment: Ecological issues, biodiversity, and climate change.
    • Current Affairs: National and international current events with emphasis on West Bengal.

    The main exam is descriptive in nature and tests candidates’ in-depth knowledge across multiple subjects. It consists of the following papers:

    • Paper I & Paper II: Bengali or any other language paper (Regional Language) and English – Essay writing, comprehension, grammar, précis writing.
    • General Studies I: Indian history, culture, and geography of India and West Bengal.
    • General Studies II: Polity, Constitution, international relations, and governance in India and West Bengal.
    • General Studies III: Economy, environment, biodiversity, and science and technology.
    • General Studies IV: Ethics, integrity, and aptitude.
    • Optional Subject: Candidates select one optional subject from a provided list for specialization.

    The final stage of the WBPSC exam is the interview, also called the Personality Test. This evaluates the candidate’s personality, leadership qualities, communication skills, and awareness of socio-political issues, especially those related to West Bengal.

    The WBPSC exam comprehensively tests candidates on their knowledge of the state's socio-economic, historical, and cultural aspects while evaluating their readiness for administrative responsibilities in West Bengal.
