What is EMRS Exam? Know your EMRS syllabus & exam pattern

What is EMRS?

Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) were introduced in the year 1997-98 to impart quality education to Scheduled Tribe children in remote areas in order to enable them to avail of opportunities in high and professional educational courses and get employment in various sectors. The schools focus not only on academic education but on the all-round development of the students. Each school has a capacity of 480 students, catering to students from Class VI to XII.EMRSs are set up in States/UTs with grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India.

EMRS Exam

To hire qualified personnel for EMRS schools, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) conducts national-level exams for teaching and non-teaching positions. The EMRS conducts this exam to recruit eligible candidates for various teaching and non-teaching positions such as TGT, PGT, Principal, Junior Secretariat Assistants (JSAs), Accountants, Lab Assistants, Librarians, and Hostel Wardens.

EMRS Exam Pattern

The EMRS exam pattern varies according to the post. If you’re preparing for EMRS, then you need to cover topics including, reasoning and numeric ability, general awareness, language competency test, academics and residential aspects, and administration and finance. The EMRS exam pattern is completely objective. It carries 130 marks and the language competency test carries 20 marks. Your interview will include a personality test of 40 marks. You will be awarded one mark each for every correct answer and there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.

EMRS PGT Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for the EMRS PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) consists of a single-stage OMR-based test featuring objective-type questions. The total duration of the exam is 180 minutes. For PGT posts, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer. You need to cover topics related to general awareness, reasoning ability, knowledge of ICT, teaching aptitude, language competency test, and English Literature.

The exam duration is of 180 minutes. The exam will carry 150 marks and you will have six sections that you need to master. You need to cover topics related to general awareness, reasoning ability, knowledge of ICT, teaching aptitude, language competency test, English Literature.

EMRS TGT English Syllabus

In General English, you need to focus on verb, subject-verb agreement, articles, tenses, voice, adverb, error correction, sentence rearrangement, comprehension, fill in the blanks, antonyms/synonyms, grammar, idioms, proverbs, unseen passages, vocabulary.

There are four sections that you need to majorly focus on: reading comprehension, writing ability, grammar and usage, and literature. In the Literature section, you need to focus on Shakespeare’s works, romantic period, 19th and 20th century American and English Literature, Modern Indian writing in English, and Modern writings in English from different parts of the world.
